A hair transplant is a form of hair restoration where hair follicles are taken from one part of the scalp and grafted into another. There are two basic techniques: the strip method (also known as FUT, see below) or the FUE method (see below). The NeoGraft 2.0 device is an FDA-approved system that takes thousands of individual grafts containing 1-3 hairs each (Follicular Unit Extraction) from the donor area, typically the back of the head, and places them in thinning or balding areas. With FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), a strip of the scalp is surgically removed from the back of the head. The downside of this old technique is that there is a fairly extensive healing process for the donor area that leaves a transverse long scar in the back of the head.
