Mini-FaceLift By Dr. Ferrari | July 25, 2015 | Premier Plastic Surgery Center

The mini-facelift is a less invasive procedure (less surgery involved) than the standard facelift. Similar to a facelift, its goal is to make the face look younger by tightening muscle tissues and to reposition sagging, loose skin in the face and neck. This is also known as the “weekend” facelift since it can be performed quickly and has a shorter recovery period for patients.

What’s the difference between a full standard facelift and the mini-facelift?

Mini-facelifts target only specific parts of the face and neck. Therefore, smaller incisions can be used. Mini-facelifts employ endoscopic techniques also in order to achieve their intended results. Consequently, the cosmetic surgeon lifts, repositions and removes smaller areas of facial tissue. However, this can’t be used to remove wrinkles and sagging skin in the forehead and brow. It is more effective in specific areas of the face only. In contrast, a standard facelift is more invasive, utilizes larger incisions, involves larger portions of the face and neck and therefore may take longer to recover from. It can also remove wrinkles and sagging skin the forehead and brow.

How is it done?

Mini-facelifts may utilize either endoscopic techniques or small surgical incisions. With endoscopy, small holes are made around the target area that allow the surgeon to insert the endoscopic instrument. A small camera inserted with the instrument allows the surgeon to visualize the area and to perform muscle tightening and removal of fat and excess tissue. If the procedure does not use endoscopy, small surgical incisions are used that allow the surgeon to lift the skin and access the structures underneath. Both techniques are minimally invasive and have fewer complications and scar formation.

Is it safe?

As with any surgical procedure, infection is always a risk. Antibiotics may be prescribed to minimize this risk. Proper wound care will also be needed to prevent infection.

Minor problems may include postoperative swelling, bruising, discomfort and/or pain.

If you are taking aspirin or related medications that may interfere with blood clotting, you will need to stop taking this also to prevent excessive bleeding.
