DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing By Dr. Ferrari | November 25, 2015 | Premier Plastic Surgery Center

An Innovative Skin Rejuvenation Process

The DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing System is an innovative skin rejuvenation procedure that uses a unique diamond-tip wand to exfoliate, clean and polish the top layer of the skin. The procedure does not use loose crystals or other abrasives and, thus, does not cause adverse skin reactions such as burning and irritation.

How does DiamondTome skin resurfacing work?

When passed over the skin, the diamond-tip wand gently exfoliates the top layer, vacuuming dead skin cells in a safe and controlled manner. The process promotes the growth of healthy new cells and stimulates collagen production.

The effectiveness of the DiamondTomeSkin Resurfacing System largely depends on the accuracy with which the wand chip size and vacuum settings are matched to the conditions of the area to be treated. Your doctor or esthetician will determine the wand chip size, number of passes and vacuum setting to ensure that you get maximum results.

For what conditions is DiamondTome skin resurfacing used?

DiamondTome skin resurfacing is used to improve specific skin conditions and revive the overall health and appearance of the skin. Specifically, it is used to repair sun-damaged skin on the face, neck, shoulders, arms, back and legs; diminish age spots and even out skin color; reduce acne and acne scars; remove blackheads and whiteheads; and treat oily skin. It also minimizes stretch marks as well as treats other skin ailments such as milia and seborrhea.

How is DiamondTome skin resurfacing administered?

The procedure begins with the selection of the appropriate wand size, number or type (horizontal or vertical) of passes and vacuum setting. Treatment varies according to the area and skin condition being treated. The procedure is applied to any of the following areas: forehead, eye area, midface (nose, cheeks, upper lip,) lower lip to upper jaw and neck area and below. Because the eye area is most delicate, it is usually treated last.

After exfoliation, the wand is again passed over areas requiring more attention, such as in the case of hyperpigmentation, fine lines or deep scars. Once that is done, the face is rinsed with a soothing cleanser and cool compresses. A calming mask is applied and over it, a cool compress left for five to ten minutes. The mask and cool compress are removed and a moisturizer and sun block are applied. Your doctor will then discuss with you the rest of your treatment and time lines.

What are the typical results of DiamondTome skin resurfacing?

DiamondTome skin resurfacing smooths, brightens and improves overall skin texture and color. Because it is a noninvasive, painless and gentle procedure, it has no downtime and leaves your skin free of irritation, redness, burning, itchiness or swelling. You can resume normal activities after treatment.

How many treatments are required?

For optimum results, a total of six treatments are recommended, taken every 14 days for the first three treatments and every 21 days for the next three treatments. After this, a monthly maintenance regimen follows. Some skin conditions such as acne scars, chloasma/melasma and postsurgical scars may require individualized or even longer treatment.
