What is it?

Plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery refers to medical and surgical procedures done to specific body parts in order to restore function or to enhance their appearance.

What’s the difference between these three?

These three types of surgeries have similar techniques but are done for different reasons.

Plastic surgery mainly performed to correct birth defects and to improve skin problems, for example blemishes, scars, warts and other unsightly problems.

Reconstructive surgery, on the other hand, is done to restore function lost or missing due to trauma, burns or birth defect.

Cosmetic surgery is done to enhance beauty and appearance or to make the person look younger.
