Dr. Ferrari uses various techniques and technologies such as:
In order to minimize bruising and recovery time, give smoother contours and remove the maximum volume possible, Dr. Ferrari routinely utilizes the “TUMESCENT LIPOSUCTION” technique. The “tumescent technique” means saline with a small amount of adrenaline is injected into the fat to shrink the blood vessels which leads to less bleeding and bruising. In most cases, Dr. Ferrari may also recommend the latest LASER-ASSISTED AND POWER-ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION technologies.
These allow removal of more fat, especially in dense areas such as the upper back, upper abdomen or chest areas. Patients are sore for a few days with diminishing discomfort for two to four weeks depending on the volume removed. Typically, patients are back to work in a week or less.
Liposuction remains one of the most effective forms of fat removal.* The reason is that Dr. Ferrari, who is very knowledgeable and skilled at Charlotte liposuction procedures, knows that patients can receive the procedure and will not need a long time in recovery.* additional time for recovery, as the lasers do use heat and individuals could be more prone to risk or injury, as opposed to less invasive methods. The non-invasive methods, as well, can help shrink fat cells with virtually no downtime. Liposuction is a small step, but a major one in fighting the battle of the bulge!*
As always, our Charlotte liposuction doctor, Victor Ferrari, can discuss your individual goals with you and help create a plan to make sure that we reach those goals. Call Premier Plastic Surgery Center today to request an appointment!
Many patients have inquired about the difference between Premier Plastic Surgery Center’s ERCHONIA LASER and SMARTLIPO for laser-assisted liposuction cases. With respect to SmartLipo, Dr. Ferrari has chosen not to use it because the Erchonia Laser technology that he uses on patients is far superior, gives better results, decreases downtime and has essentially no risk of complications. First, SmartLipo was originally intended for small cases that could be done under local anesthesia (with the patient awake). It was not really intended for large areas.
In contrast, the Erchonia Laser-Assisted Liposuction is designed to cover large areas. Second, SmartLipo is a “hot” laser that literally melts the fat. However, this heat could be transmitted to the skin and burn it, which would lead to undesirable, visible, permanent scarring. The Erchonia Laser is a “cold” laser, so there has never been even one case of a burn. Third, the SmartLipo ads claim that it can shrink the skin.
The only way to shrink skin with SmartLipo is to pass the laser just under the skin from the inside, causing a mild internal burn of the skin. This will cause the heat to transfer to the skin and therefore make the collagen shrink. Unfortunately, this technique is fraught with problems because any minor imperfection in the technique will result in dimpling, depressions, grooves or possibly burns and scarring in the skin. Therefore, we are confident that the Erchonia laser is superior to SmartLipo in every way and has essentially no complications associated with it.
The other technology mentioned above was “POWER-ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION.” Traditional liposuction works by forcefully and quickly ramming a metal tube (called a “cannula”) into the fat to break it up while a vacuum is applied to remove the fat. This type of liposuction is fairly traumatic and has been associated with internal organ injuries.
In contrast, Power-Assisted Liposuction uses smaller-diameter cannulas that are mounted on a special handpiece that causes the cannula to vibrate back and forth just a fraction of an inch at a very high speed. (You may have seen Dr. Ferrari discussing this on WSOC-TV News in the past. You can see a video of that newscast on the video page of our site.) This back-and-forth action breaks up the fat in a MORE GENTLE manner.
Also, the handpiece can be held with two fingers and slowly passed into the fat layer in a slow, rhythmic fashion. Therefore, THE CHANCE OF INTERNAL ORGAN DAMAGE IS VIRTUALLY ELIMINATED because as long as the cannula is in the fatty layer, it glides easily; if the cannula reaches the muscle layer, it becomes very hard to advance it. The surgeon simply stops the advancement of the cannula, backs up and heads off in a different direction.
Making a decision to undergo any surgical procedure should done after careful consideration. The first thing to decide is if you are properly motivated to undergo a cosmetic surgery procedure. In other words, are you doing this to feel better about your appearance or are you trying to satisfy someone else’s desires or obtain some ideal image in your mind that might not ever be attainable?
If you feel you are properly motivated psychologically and have realistic expectations, then there are physical issues to consider. The best candidates are healthy, have stable weight and are non-smokers. Though liposuction can tighten loose skin to some degree, some patients may need removal of excess skin (such as in a tummy tuck) along with their liposuction. It is also important to realize that though liposuction can dramatically improve shape and contours, it is not considered a weight-loss technique.
