One of the most popular cosmetic procedures is nose reshaping or rhinoplasty. Surgery to reshape the nose can reduce or increase the size of the nose, remove an unsightly hump, change the shape of the nose tip or bridge, narrow the width of the nostrils, or alter the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Whatever you have in mind, our Charlotte plastic surgeon, Dr. Victor S. Ferrari, can work with you to make that dream a reality.

The minimum age when a person can undergo rhinoplasty is 14 to 15 years for girls and slightly older for boys. The reason doctors have set this minimum age is that it is at this stage of maturity that the nasal bone had already stabilized.
Just like any surgical procedure, rhinoplasty has its attendant risks. Among these dangers is the possibility of bleeding, infection and adverse reactions to medications or anesthesia. Aside from these, there are other dangers particular to rhinoplasty, such as burst blood vessels. Ruptured veins can result in red spots and small scars on the underside of the nose. There is also a chance that a second rhinoplasty may be required to remove or correct tissue.
Other risks include:
Rhinoplasty starts once the surgeon makes an incision either inside the nose or across the skin that separates the nostrils. The cartilage and bone that make up the nasal structure are exposed and shaped into the desired profile. The surgeon then stitches back the skin to complete the nose surgery. A typical rhinoplasty procedure takes anywhere between one and two hours and is usually an outpatient procedure.
Following rhinoplasty, you can expect soreness and bruising from one to several days in the affected area. Black eyes are common during recovery from a nose job. When this happens, apply cold compresses around but not directly on the nose to reduce swelling.
Mistakes can’t be avoided, and this is also true with rhinoplasty. When patients are not content with the result of the procedure, a second, revision surgery may be the answer. The tissue usually must be allowed to heal for some time before a revision procedure can be undertaken.
Some doctors are now offering nose jobs without having to undergo surgery. These types of “no-surgery nose jobs” are possible because the surgeon does not necessarily correct the structure of the nose but instead uses a special filler.
Although this procedure has its limitations, it is relatively less costly and quicker than an actual rhinoplasty procedure.
When performed correctly, the procedure restores balance between the nose and the other facial features. Dr. Ferrari takes great care to achieve a natural result and avoids the obvious nose job “surgical” look created by less skilled, less experienced plastic surgeons.
Like thousands of others in Charlotte, NC, and the surrounding North Carolina communities, you can have a nose that’s the right size and shape for your face without anyone knowing you have undergone rhinoplasty.
